Hear from Naomi Moran as a part of the talks program at Parrtjima 2023.
A Nyangbal, Arakwal and Dunghutti woman from New South Wales, Naomi Moran is the CEO of Australia’s only independent Indigenous newspaper, the Koori Mail. Naomi wanted to quit school at 14, but was given the opportunity to do a 12-month traineeship as the receptionist. This traineeship led to her long career with the paper, where she gained experience in all areas of the business including advertising and editorial. Her career in Indigenous media spans more than 20 years, and includes experience in print, television and radio. In the aftermath of the 2022 Lismore flood disaster, Naomi was critical in establishing a relief hub to support and inform the local Aboriginal community during this devastating event. In 2021 she was elected chair of First Nations Media Australia (FNMA) and is also a board member of Arts Northern Rivers. In January 2023 she was invited to join the First Nations Digital Inclusion Advisory Group, an initiative that will focus on the development of policies that support digital inclusion for First Nations people around the nation.
Entry to talks will be on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you arrive early.
