Parrtjima | Music | Richard J Frankland Discovering Leerpeen Mara

Details

One of Australia’s most prominent Indigenous figures, Richard Frankland is a performer, filmmaker, activist, novelist, counsellor, musician, community leader, educator, academic, songwriter, poet and playwright. Born on the coast in South-West Victoria, Richard is a Gunditjmara man. He is Koytpa Koy Koy Mara. A story man. An art-warrior.

His fifth album, Discovering Leerpeen Mara, is a reimagining of his life map of songs. It features the achingly beautiful Freycinet Line and River to the Sea, and new recordings of some of his older work, like Cry Freedom and Tomorrow Australia. Richard's spoken word opus is part Frank Zappa and part unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. A Professor at Deakin University, Melbourne (Naarm), Richard is also Elder-in-Residence at National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
