The iconic Finke Desert Race is an off-road, multi-terrain, two-day race for bikes, cars and buggies, racing across desert country from Alice Springs to the remote Aputula (Finke) community.
Held each year over the June long weekend, it remains the centrepiece of Australia's off-road racing calendar.
The race is the main feature in off-road motorsport, and the coveted King of the Desert Trophy is arguably the most sought-after prize, although for many competitors, simply getting there and back is a victory in itself.
Having celebrated its 50th year in 2026, the Tatts Finke Desert Race now enters a new era, building on five decades of history while continuing to evolve, inspire and challenge the next generation of riders and drivers.
This unique outback event is widely regarded as one of the most difficult off-road races in the world, cutting through remote terrain of red dirt, deep sand and rugged spinifex. Each year, for four action-packed days, up to 650 bikes and 165 cars, buggies and trophy trucks take on this one-of-a-kind course.
The Tatts Finke Desert Race remains Australia's ultimate desert race, now proudly moving into its next chapter.
