Discover the history, science and thrill of gold mining in Tennant Creek and the Barkly.
The Battery Hill Mining Centre is the site of the historic No 3 Government Gold Stamp Battery, where it all started with the 1930's outback gold rush. The centre overlooks the town and the surrounding countryside.
Enjoy an underground mine tour** (costs apply). Wander through three museum exhibits:
• "Freedom, Fortitude and Flies", a look at social life on the goldfields during the early formative years;
• The McLaughlin Minerals Collection, a spectacular array of mineral samples both local, and from around the world
• "100 Years ANZAC Spirit-Albert Borella VC", a journey from Tennant Creek to Darwin and the Western Front.
Self-guided nature walks and static machinery displays are found around the site .
The Battery Hill Mining Centre is 1½ kilometres from the Tennant Creek town centre along Peko Road. The centre also houses the Tennant Creek Visitor Information Centre.
