Fuel Stops on the Barkly Highway

The Barkly Highway is a 763 km sealed highway connecting the Northern Territory and Queensland. Now also promoted as part of the Overlander's Way, it stretches from the Threeways Roadhouse near Tennant Creek to Cloncurry in Queensland. As the primary road link between the two states, it is heavily used by road trains, self drive visitors and caravanners.

Barkly Homestead is a remote roadhouse and outback oasis located on the Barkly Highway. It sits approximately halfway between Tennant Creek (220 km west) and Camooweal (240 km east), making it the only fuel and service stop across a 460 km stretch of highway.

Fuel available includes Diesel, Unleaded 91, Premium 95 and Avgas, along with oils, lubricants and coolants. Inside the roadhouse you'll find barista-made coffee, cold drinks, ice creams, snacks, a gift shop, ATM and everyday travel essentials. The Bar & Grill serves hearty outback meals from breakfast through to dinner, making it a popular place to enjoy a relaxed meal or a cold drink before getting back on the road. Visa, MasterCard and EFTPOS are accepted.

If you're planning an overnight stop, Barkly Homestead offers a range of accommodation including motel rooms, cabins, single cabins, pet-friendly cabins, as well as powered and unpowered camping. Travellers also have access to clean amenities, a camp kitchen, laundry facilities, dump point, safe drinking water and a swimming pool - perfect for cooling off after a day on the road. Please note that powered and unpowered campsites operate on a first come, first served basis and cannot be booked in advance. Wi-Fi is available around the roadhouse, although coverage is limited in the campground and most cabins due to the remote location.

• Dry Season (1 May – 31 October): 6:00am – 10:00pm daily (kitchen closes 8:30pm)
• Wet Season (1 November – 30 April): 6:00am – 9:00pm daily (kitchen closes 8:00pm)

Barkly Homestead is located approximately 211km east of Tennant Creek on the Barkly Highway and provides an essential stop for travellers crossing the Barkly Tablelands.
