Expect the unexpected when you visit Central Australia; the ever changing and magnificent landscape will amaze you. Bring your sense of adventure because there are so many ways to explore the region that you’ll want to stay a little longer just to tick them all off your list.

Witness the majestic colours of the ancient landscape and spot native wildlife as you float in a hot air balloon or soar through the skies and experience the colours of a vivid sunset on a scenic helicopter flight. Dash over a dry creek bed on Kings Creek Station aboard a quad bike or join a mountain bike tour and ride the desert tracks. If a slower pace is more your style then take the original ship of the desert, a camel trek through the red gums of the Todd River and retrace the steps of our great explorers.

For the intrepid four-wheel drive enthusiast, get off the beaten track and head east to the impressive Harts Range, see the diggings of the mica miners of the 1900s and visit the Atitjere Aboriginal Community. Head north on the epic Binns Track passing through spectacular scenery and the celebrated landmarks between Alice Springs and Timber Creek, some 2000 kilometres north. South of Alice lies the vast expanse of the Simpson Desert, featuring some of the best four-wheel driving in Australia. You can drive this rugged country at your own pace or join a local and experienced guide on a four-wheel drive tour.

It’s not all about the adrenaline rush though. If having your feet on the ground is more your style, there are an abundance of day and overnight walking tours and trails through the MacDonnell Ranges, where you can learn about the culture and traditions of the Western Arrernte people. Beyond Alice Springs try your luck at fossicking for garnets and zircon at Gemtree, the famed Centralian gem fields.

Which adventures will you choose?
