Located in Alice Springs, the museum houses an extensive collection of photographs and paraphernalia from the early settlement days in Central Australia.
Description
Wander through the displays that describe early exploration and the opening up of the Centre of Australia, after the completion of the Overland Telegraph Line in the late 1800s, through to the present day. Find beautiful gemstones, fossils, Aboriginal artefacts and lots of other interesting objects from the Overland Telegraph Line. There's plenty of fascinating information to devour about early pastoralists, miners and pioneers to the region.
The museum is situated in the grounds of the Old Timers Village and is run on a voluntary basis by the residents. It was created by John Blakeman, who began collecting items connected with the people of Central Australia and opened in 1966. It was named after the inventor of the pedal radio, Alfred Traeger. Since then the collection has continued to grow with donations of items from the community.
Admission is a $2 donation for adults and children under 16yrs are FREE.
