Details

Located 640 kilometres south of Darwin and approximately 35 kilometres south of Dunmurra, is Frew Ponds Overland Telegraph Line Memorial Reserve. This heritage-listed attraction is located is near the intersection of the Stuart and the Carpentaria Highways.

The reserve serves as a tribute to Sir Charles Todd, builder of the Overland Telegraph Line and commemorates the joining of the two ends of the line in 1872. Fifty two of the original Oppenhiemer poles remain within the reserve and can be accessed by a 1.5 kilometre walking trail.

There's no camping available, but the attraction serves as a good stop to rest the legs on your way to or from Tennant Creek along the Explorer's Way route.
