WOS celebrates uniquely Australian art and culture through visual and performing arts. The performance program includes burlesque, circus, roving, spoken word, experimental and hilariously fun local and interstate acts. The visual arts program provides festival folk with immersive spaces, installations, projections, and live painting to put make the desert event more beautiful than it already is.

We proudly embrace the extraordinary, the interactive and the unapologetically quirky.

Description

Wide Open Space is an annual 3-day music, arts and desert culture festival which is celebrating it's 10th year in 2018. It promises to feed your mind, tickle your fancy and get your body moving!

It celebrates art, music and creativity amidst the stunning Central Australian landscape, in the breath-taking East MacDonnell Ranges. The festival combines contemporary and traditional culture, uniting high-calibre local talent with a selection of national and international artists.

A diverse 3-day program brings frivolity, noise, nonsense, mindfood, manoeuvres, reflections, expression, desert culture... and maybe some pole dancing unicorns...seriously! It'd be hard to find a broader range of music on offer, from folk to live hip-hop to poolside disco, Indigenous reggae and late-night dancefloors.

You'll delight in the many performances going on including; a tapestry of cabaret and burlesque, roving creatures, circus and aerials, fire and lots of dress-ups! There's also a rich program of forums and workshops spanning everything from dance and culture to sustainability and politics with plenty of hands-on artmaking. To truly understand what makes Wide Open Space so special, you need to come and experience it for yourself! Held an hours' drive from Alice Springs, at Ross River Resort, the main accommodation option is camping. There are a small number of private cabins available at Ross River Resort but, you'll need to book early to avoid disappointment. Children and Youths must be accompanied by an adult.
