Hear from Steven Oliver as a part of the talks program at Parrtjima 2023.
A descendant of the Kuku-Yalanji, Waanyi, Gangalidda, Woppaburra, Bundjalung and Biripi peoples, Steven Oliver became well-known as a writer/actor/associate producer on ABC’s Black Comedy.
His creations ‘The Tiddas’ helped gain him a Favourite Comedy Performer of the Decade finalist nomination at the 2020 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards. Other TV roles include Indigenous arts quiz show, Faboriginal, and the documentary, LookyLooky Here Comes Cooky.
A published playwright and poet in national and international journals, Steven has also featured in critically acclaimed documentaries Occupation Native and History Bites Back. His cabaret show Bigger and Blacker, which premiered at the 2019 Adelaide Cabaret Festival, has since played at La Boite Theatre Brisbane, Sydney Opera House, Malthouse Theatre Melbourne, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Perth International Cabaret Festival, Darwin Festival and Belco Arts Canberra. He also co-hosted the 2022 Sydney Mardi Gras for the ABC, the 2022 National NAIDOC Awards and the National Indigenous Music Awards for NITV/SBS Viceland.
