Parrtjima will return to Alice Springs in 2021 on April 9-18 with the theme FUTURE KULTCHA

With free entry over 10 nights, the light installations set against the majestic MacDonnell Ranges make this is the ULTIMATE cultural and outback experience! Look up and let your spirit soar as the annual Parrtjima Festival connects us all through story, art, landscape and light in the heart of Australia – Alice Springs.

FUTURE KULTCHA is based on the timeless oral way of learning, the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next that has taken place amongst Aboriginal peoples for eons.  But to learn, you also have to understand the listening.  Listen to the elders, custodians and guardians of language.
And imagine – when you have knowledge you have obligation, when you have a voice you have freedom, you have pride and you belong.

Each evening prepare to be transported to another world as nearly 2km of the beautiful MacDonnell ranges comes to life with spectacular lighting effects, all crowned by the brilliant star-scape above.

The program will focus on intergenerational wisdom told through light, installations, art, music, dance, performance and digital.  Through deep listening conversations and the spoken word.

Embrace the rich, sensory experience of large-scale sculptural installations, and be inspired and uplifted by stories told and shared on Arrernte country.

  What is Parrtjima?

"Parrtjima showcases one of the oldest continuous cultures onearth through the newest technology – all on a 300-million-year-old natural canvas in the Red Centre. Parrtjima celebrates the ways in which artists can evolve and experiment with different styles and materials, while staying true to the ancient philosophy of connection and Country.

Parrtjima is held on Mparntwe (Alice Springs), which always was and always will be part of the Arrernte people. Mparntwe is connected to the estates of Antulye and Irlpme, as well as a network of custodians who hold rights and responsibilities for these areas. A group of which guide and help create Parrtjima. Together they invite visitors to come and experience Parrtjima, and gain a deeper understanding of, and connection to, country and Arrernte culture.

Alongside Arrernte art and artists, the festival also features work from across the Central Desert region and associated other parts of the Northern Territory."
