Situated at the Western end of the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges, Glen Helen Lodge is the climax to a spectacular and colourful scenic drive, a little over an hour from Alice Springs.

Glen Helen is surrounded by the majestic MacDonnell Ranges, and is a destination in its own right, with easy day trip access to the whole West MacDonnell National Park, including; Palm Valley, Hermannsburg, Ormiston Gorge, Redbank Gorge, Mt Sonder, Gosse Bluff (Tnorala) and many other outstanding natural attractions. There are amazing hiking options throughout the region, with the world famous 'Larapinta Trail' on our doorstep, there's plenty of opportunity to observe the local wildlife including many bird species, rock wallabies, dingoes and lizards.


Glen Helen Lodge is the only roofed accommodation located within the Tjoritja - West MacDonnell Ranges National Park, 130km west of Alice Springs.

Standley Chasm Angkerle Atwatye is a "must see!" It's a spectacular geological and culturally significant icon located in the West MacDonnell Ranges, Tjoritja, National Park. Standley Chasm is located on a private flora and fauna reserve owned by the Iwupataka Land Trust.

The Angkerle Aborigical Corporation is a unique enterprise that is 100% Aboriginal owned and is operated by local community members. The local community members are direct descendants of the Western Arrente people who have lived in the area for tens of thousands of years.

At Standley Chasm you'll have the option to self explore the incredible Chasm over a 2.4km easy walk. The wheel chair accessible walk follows a creek bed that gives views of the incredible 80m sheer red cliffs.

There is also the opportunity to take a guided Cultural Tour at Standley Chasm where you can learn from local Indigenous people about this special Women's Dreaming site. The tour is engaging and gives participants an opportunity to learn about local culture as well as flora and fauna.

At Standley Chasm you can begin your walk into the the dramatic 80m sheer rock-face of the narrow Chasm. The walk follows a well maintained trail (2.4km/10mins each way), along a natural creek-bed. The walk is wheelchair accessible until the trail turns into a rocky creek bed in the centre of the chasm. As you walk you'll find excellent interpretative signage and various seating options along the way. Traditional Owners encourage you to take your time and absorb the undeniable serenity of this tranquil place. A small fee is charged to access the trail and Chasm. All proceeds go back to the community and contribute to the maintenance and sustainability of this special site. Angkerle Atwatye “the Gap of Water”, is a striking geological formation that has significant botanical appeal as well as being popular among photographers and bird-watchers. The chasm is an important cultural site for Western Arrernte women and now provides a backdrop for authentic cross-cultural presentations, bush-tucker tours, art workshops & language classes. Join one of our exclusive cultural tours during your visit, to gain a deeper understanding of this special site and an appreciation of the ancient culture connected to it. At Standley Chasm you'll also find a welcoming kiosk café that serves barista coffees (possibly the best in the outback), signature home-baked scones, hot lunches and ice-creams. We promise you'll love our great food and friendly service! Whilst visiting be sure to browse the impressive souvenir shop with hand-painted Aboriginal crafts made on location which include original boomerangs, retailing at workshop prices. Package - Standard Room - Sleeps 3 Terms and Conditions:

Any cancellations or amendments requested within fourteen (14) days of arrival date will incur a cancellation fee equivalent to one hundred (100) percent of the booking (inclusive of all accommodation pre-booked meals conferencing functions and tours).
No refunds are available in the event of an early departure or non-arrival.

HALF DAY CULTURAL & ART TOUR Terms and Conditions:

Where 24 hours’ notice of a cancelled booking occurs Standley Chasm will provide a full refund of any deposit or funds paid for a booking.
Where less than 24 hours’ notice is provided by the customer or tour agent the General manager may at their discretion choose not to refund the booking deposit.
